I joined the Army in January 1995, leaving Warren, Ohio to start my Army career at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. After completing basic training and advanced training for Administration Specialist, the Army sent me to postal school at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana. In June the Army sent me to Kaiserslautern, Germany for a 3 year tour of duty. My wife Jennifer joined my shortly after I secured off base housing. In December I was sent on deployment to Bosnia to assist in setting up a postal locator system downrange.
What a great experience it was to live outside of the United States for an extended amount of time. Living off base provided Jenn and I the opportunity to learn new customs and gave us a unique perspective about our country and how truly great the United States of America is. During my tour in Germany I managed to find time outside of work hours to complete most of my junior and senior years of college.
Jenn and I returned back to the States in the summer of 1998 and got stationed at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology at Walter Reed. I completed my bachelors degree at the University of Maryland that fall, then started my masters program in January. It's a good thing I was in school because as a low ranking enlisted man we basically lived off of student loans for the next couple of years!
In 2001 I left the Army after 6 years of service and entered the private sector workforce.
Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized:
NATO Medal, Armed Forces Serice Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achivement Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Oversears Services Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge
Before entering the Army, I had a window cleaning business for a couple of years. After leaving the Army and spending a few years in the telecommunications industry, I started IntraSpek in 2004, providing software development and support services. I understand the struggles that small business owners face on a daily basis. Small businesses are the foundation of our great country and employ over half of the workforce. We must do everything we can to foster an environment for small businesses to thrive and be competitive within a global market.
I met my wife Jenn in 1991. My grandmother and Jenn's mom worked at the same hospital and decided it was a good idea to set us up on a blind date! The first date wasn't great. I think we spoke 3 words the entire night! So, I decided to ask her out again and she said yes. What else is there to do in January?!? Well it must have been destiny because we are celebrating our 27 years of marriage this year.
Jenn is a strong independent woman and I owe all of my life success to her.
When I'm not working I enjoy bowling, photography, hiking, boating and singing karaoke with Jenn.
